Durante o primeiros 40 dias de 2018 foram realizadas duas expedições opostas e complementares em regiões do brasil que apresentam características em comum, mas diferentes agenciamentos territoriais. A primeira, chapada diamantina na Bahia, é um antigo polo de extração de diamantes que se tornou um polo de turismo com varias questões  em relação à preservação do patrimônio natural

A segunda, o Vale do Jequitinhonha, no norte de Minas gerais, é historicamente uma das regiões mias abandonadas e pobres do estado, por questões meramente politicas, e apresenta uma diversidade cultural unica que se manifesta em diversos tipos de artesanias extremamente refinadas.

Cada trecho da viagem teve um texto de referência e ambos foram conectadas pelos 40 contos sobre a vida após a morte do livro SUM, de David Eagleman, que gentilmente cedeu os direitos de publicação. 

/ NORTH SOUTH EAST WEST: During the first 40 days of 2018 two opposing and complementary expeditions were carried out in regions of Brazil that present common characteristics, but different territorial assemblages. The first, Chapada Diamantina, in Bahia, is a former pole of diamond extraction that has become a tourist hub with several issues regarding the preservation of natural and human heritage. The second, Jequitinhonha Valley, in northern Minas Gerais, is historically one of the most poor regions of the state, whose abandonment contrasts with a unique cultural diversity. Each part of the expedition had a few reference texts and both were connected by SUM - 40 tales from the afterlifes by David Eagleman, which quotes were kindly authorised by the author.

A Chapada Diamantina foi palco de um devastador ciclo de mineração que começou no século XVII e se encerrou apenas em 1985, com a criação do parque nacional. Nos últimos  dez anos o turismo de massa se desenvolveu de maneira avassaladora na região, com as típicas concentrações estrutura, renda e lixo que esse tipo de crescimento desordenado trás consigo.

O princípio que organizou essa expedição foi tentar entender através do caminhar a relação que se estabelecia entre os diversos povoados que gravitavam ao redor da cidade de Lençóis, uma das mas ricas no Brasil do séculoXVIII, resgatando as antigas estradas de tropeiros e mineradores que formava a rede das trocas na região, e que hoje, com a implementação do sistema rodoviário, são utilizadas de maneira errática pela população local.  

/ The Chapada Diamantina was the scene of a devastating mining cycle that began in the 17th century and ended only in 1985 with the creation of the national park. In the last ten years mass tourism has grown in an overwhelming way in the region, with the typical concentrations of structure, income and garbage that this type of posture brings with it. The principle that organized this expedition was to try to understand by walking the relationship that was established between the several settlements that gravitated around Lençóis, one of the richest cities in Brazil duriong the 18th century, following the old roads of tropeiros and miners that formed a exchange net and that today, with the implementation of the motoroad system, are used erratically by the local population. /

O Vale do Jequitinhonha é uma região que instiga meu imaginário depois de anos. Reputada como uma das regiões mais pobres do Brasil, assolada pela seca e pela falta de atenção politica, é berço de uma obra artesanal em barro única, de peças que retratam o cotidiano e o fantástico da realidade local, usando para isso as cores da terra.

A land bordered by river and mountain, halfway to the sea, it presents itself as a territory still unexplored and potential, where a ghost dam installed elsewhere has changed the dynamics of the vast river, but not the relation of its inhabitants with the golden waters where they wash, swim, fish and sail. /

Que será que às vezes tanto nos dificulta determinar o destino de nossos passos? 

Creio na existência de um magnetismo sutil  na natureza o qual, se cedermos inconscientemente, nos levará ao caminho acertado.
