What is so urgent to go on foot?

Angela Quinto opens the book's introduction with this question, and it's something I always wonder: where does this inescapable desire to traverse the territory in the time of the body come from?

While HOFERWEG 1 was still being prepared for publication, another question haunted me: Were the events that motivated the writing of the first book an exception or thre is a potential history to be narrated harbored in every long walk through unknown territories?

In July 2019, I embarked on this new adventure after participating in the Prague Quadrennial. Unlike the first expedition, there wouldn't be the safe anchorage of friends' homes along the way, motivating an attitude that enabled a surprising number of unexpected encounters.

And ultimately, the book is about this: the essentially human empathy and generosity that awaits us when we decide to traverse the territory like our most distant ancestors.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

RENATO HOFER is a restless Brazilian architect and visual artist whose fields of work spans diverse areas, from cuisine to exhibition design, often drawing on the experiences from the long walks he performs as part of his artistic practice.

What unites and empowers this diverse set of activities is his interest in the relationship between the body and space, linked to issues of otherness, combined with the search for mechanisms to share these experiences, which can take the form of exhibitions, workshops, collective expeditions, or educational activities.

His literary debut was in 2019 with the book "HOFERWEG – or the hardest way to get from Prague to Paris," written as a result of an artistic residency supported by the ArtRrio Foco Prize, during which the artist expanded his studio activities to a vast territory. In the second part of this project, the walking artist heads to northern Central Europe, moving beyond his comfort zone to foster even more intense experiences in contact with local culture.
